UCF is commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17 with a lunch-and-learn. David Head, associate lecturer of history, is the keynote speaker.Topic: Pirates are a part of the Constitution. Article I, Section 8 give Congress the power to "define and punish Piracies" and the power to "grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal." What are they doing there? This talk looks at a curious side of our founding document and reveals what pirates can tell us about the Constitution's origins and how it applies in our world today. This presentation provides an overview of programs available from SBA to support the establishment and growth of small businesses, including loan guaranty and venture capital programs to enhance small business access to capital; contracting programs to increase small business opportunities in federal contracting; direct loan programs for businesses, homeowners, and renters to assist their recovery from natural disasters; and small business management and technical assistance training programs to assist business formation and expansion. Congressional interest in these programs has increased in recent years, primarily because small businesses are viewed to stimulate economic activity and create jobs. Over the course of two to four semesters, students work closely with a faculty committee to research, write, defend, and publish an original thesis that serves as an honors capstone product of their undergraduate career. This group meets every Wednesday. May meet outdoors during building closures for holidays.NA is a non-profit fellowship of men and women for whom drugs have become a major problem. This monthly food distribution event is a volunteering opportunity that occurs on the third Thursday of every month at the 910 Livingston Street Church of God about a block and half from UCF Downtown and Valencia College Downtown.The entire volunteer opportunity is from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. There are two volunteer shifts: 8:30-11 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.-1p.m. Volunteers may sign up for one or both shifts (link below).Volunteers will be expected to assist with setup and teardown, breakdown and repackage food for distribution, and assist with loading patron's vehicles.*If all 20 spots are filled, you are still able to come volunteer.
