- Aug 2511:00 AMColloquium by Professor Xin LiOur [Colloquium series](https://sciences.ucf.edu/math/colloquium/) offers a vibrant platform for faculty, students, research scholars, and industry experts to share and exchange ideas, fostering discussion and networking across mathematics, statistics, and data science. This week, our own professor [Xin Li](https://sciences.ucf.edu/math/person/xin-li/) will present a talk on "Dynamic Inertial Newton Inspired Algorithms And Their Applications to Non-Smooth and Non-Convex Optimizations."Abstract: Dynamic Inertial Newton (DIN) systems have been used to motivate or explain several accelerated algorithms to solve a wide range of optimization problems. In this presentation, we propose new algorithms inspired by DIN and establish their convergence analysis. Furthermore, we discuss how to apply these algorithms to the applications in deep learning via a smoothing approximation approach. The motivation for our study is two-folds: we give a direct approach to find a critical point of the objective functions, and we want to cover most problems in machine learning whose objective functions are known to be non-smooth and non-convex.Speaker Bio: Xin Li is a professor of mathematics at UCF, where he has served since 1990, including a decade as department chair. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of South Florida in 1989 under professor E.B. Saff. His research spans approximation theory, orthogonal polynomials, stochastic processes, computer vision, and machine learning, with numerous publications and international presentations. He has led or co-led major research and education projects funded by the NSF, industry, and government agencies, and is affiliated with UCF's Center for Research in Computer Vision. An award-winning educator, Li has guided Ph.D. and master's students and received multiple teaching honors, reflecting his commitment to advancing mathematics and STEM education.

Build and maintain motivation 2. Cope with urges and cravings 3. Manage thoughts, feelings and behaviors 4. Live a balanced lifeSMART Recovery focuses on the addictive behaviors, not the substance - meaning they are suitable for any problematic or addictive behavior - including but not limited to alcohol, drugs, gambling, tobacco, as well as eating disorders. For more information about this meeting format visit . - Aug 2610:00 AMBachelor's in Nursing Online Information Session, BSN degree (via Zoom)Join us online for an information session on the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at UCF and learn about the unique admission requirements for each BSN program track. In this interactive information session, ask questions and find out what you need to know to successfully prepare your BSN program application.UCF's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Information Sessions are designed to help prospective BSN students understand the process and steps for applying to UCF's limited-access, upper-division BSN programs which include the traditional, second degree and concurrent options. The online RN to BSN option will also be discussed. Attendees will learn about unique application requirements to practice and learn in clinical sites, prerequisite courses and grade requirements, and other helpful information. This information session is open to anyone interested in applying to [UCF College of Nursing's BSN program](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/").Attendance is not required of applicants, but it is encouraged. Attendees should plan to arrive early and stay for the entire presentation which will last about one hour followed by a question and answer session. There will be limited availability for one-on-one advising after the session.[BSN program options](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/"):* [Traditional BSN](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/traditional-bsn/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/traditional-bsn/") is offered at three UCF campuses: Cocoa, Daytona Beach and Orlando * [Second Degree BSN](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/second-degree-bsn/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/second-degree-bsn/") is only offered at UCF Orlando and is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree or higher in a non-nursing discipline * [Concurrent ASN to BSN](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/#bsn "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/#bsn") is offered at UCF Altamonte Springs (SSC) and UCF Valencia West with on-campus classes and then transitions online the last 1-2 semesters after passing the NCLEX-RN * [Florida College System Concurrent ASN to BSN](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/online-fcs-bsn/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/online-fcs-bsn/") is offered online to students who have completed their first semester of an ASN program at any Florida College System program * [RN to BSN](https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/online-rn-bsn/ "https://nursing.ucf.edu/academics/bachelors-degrees/online-rn-bsn/") is offered online for licensed RNs who aim to advance their education with a BSN degreeThank you and we look forward to chatting with you.Virtual Location URL: https://calendly.com/ucf-college-of-nursing/bsn-info-session Registration Link: https://calendly.com/ucf-college-of-nursing/bsn-info-session Registration Info: Please register through Calendly.
