Running complex statistical analyses and simulations can often be challenging when compute resources are limited. In this workshop, you will learn you how to leverage the virtually unlimited compute power of the cloud by running a Monte-Carlo simulation using AWS Batch. AWS Batch dynamically provisions the optimal compute resources based on your workload, allowing you to focus on analyzing the results rather than managing infrastructure. You'll learn how to set up a containerized R-based HPC workload using services like Docker, ECR, S3, IAM and Fargate, with AWS Batch as the core service to address your research needs. To participate in the hands-on lab during the session, you will need to provide your own computer with a web browser and a reliable internet connection.This event is not being recorded. Dr. Zhihua Qu, Pegasus Professor in the UCF Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will facilitate the U.S. Department of Energy session. Dr. Mary Little, professor in the UCF School of Teacher Education, will facilitate the U.S. Department of Education session.Several strong/weak proposal writing examples will be discussed to demonstrate best practices. A brief overview of the proposal review process, pros and cons of communicating with agency program managers before proposal submission, developing an impactful research plan, discussion of budget, developing the evaluation/assessment plan and common mistakes to avoid will be discussed.Participation is only open for faculty researchers approved by their college leadership and selected by the Office of Research.
