Over the course of two to four semesters, students work closely with a faculty committee to research, write, defend and publish an original thesis that serves as an honors capstone product of their undergraduate career. - Jul 7–192024 Competitive Programming Summer InstituteThe Summer Institute is an intensive two-week residential program for gifted and high-achieving students who have a background in computer science with an interest in algorithms and programming competitions. The program offers lectures on data structures and algorithms commonly seen in competitions, several practice competitions, problem reviews of those competitions, and personalized coaching from coaches and members of UCF's acclaimed programming team. The camp is specifically designed to help students improve their performance in contests such as USACO, TopCoder, CodeForces, and eventually, the ACM ICPC. Although the camp is academically focused on programming competitions, the program will also include social activities and a kick-off event Sunday, July 10. - Jul 8–12Camp Connect IICamp Connect II is a week-long day camp that provides students with a deeper hands-on experience within the various engineering fields. Students participate in hands-on activities, group projects, and presentations led by our own faculty and student organizations. Students may also visit various off-campus UCF labs.Students who previously completed Camp Connect I are invited to attend.
- Jul 15–19Geo Explorer Summer InstituteThe Geo Explorer Summer Institute is a one-week program for rising sixth and seventh grade students interested in learning and applying new science technologies focused on geography, mapping, geospatial, virtual reality, augmented reality, and drone technologies through lab and fieldwork experiences at UCF.Students will engage in active learning connecting interactive lecture discussions, hands-on geospatial technology labs, collaborative research planning discussions, science communication discussions, personal and direct mentoring with a diverse group of UCF undergraduate and graduate students, and fieldwork on the UCF main campus. The program will offer hands-on activities, group work and lectures given by local professors at UCF. Participants will learn about exciting mathematics, discover new arguments and explain insights to their peers. Throughout the program, not only will students engage in deep exploration of mathematics and develop as a mathematician, but they will be immersed in a community of others who share their mathematical talent and curiosity.
