WAC Wednesday: Considering AI-Refusal in Writing Contexts

Wednesday, November 19, 2025 12:00–1:00 PM
  • Location
    Virtual
  • Description
You are invited to join the UCF Writing Across the Curriculum Program for WAC Wednesdays, a virtual discussion group for faculty and staff interested in writing within and across disciplines.

Fall 2025 sessions will continue to engage questions around artificial intelligence (AI) and writing and will take place on Zoom from 12-1 p.m. on select Wednesdays in September, October and November.

Our session on "Considering AI-Refusal in Writing Contexts" will take place on Nov. 19, from 12-1 p.m. on Zoom.

Although the most prominent narratives suggest that everyone is using AI to enhance their writing, many companies and organizations still prohibit the use of all or some AI. In this session, we will discuss how we opt in or out of AI use for our writing as AI becomes increasingly embedded in word processing applications, file storage systems and publishing practices. Additionally, we'll consider who has the right to refuse AI use at the university, in the industrial sector or in public spaces. And we'll discuss the stakes for doing so.

Join us for thoughtful, engaged conversation and reflection.
