Agentic AI & the Future of Digital Making
Thursday, November 6, 2025 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- LocationTrevor Colbourn Hall: TCH 325
- DescriptionJoin us to explore agentic AI as a cultural technology and view its transformative (some might say
ominous?) potential for digital humanities research and practice. We'll examine:
* Distinctions between agentic AI and generative AI
* Uses of agents and subagents with Perplexity. AI's Comet and Claude Code
* Practical research and digital making applications - and implications for our collective
labor
Open to all faculty & students

- Nov 612:00 PMReaching for the Stars as a Global Citizen: An Intellectual Journey of Asia & the World 2025 Lecture Series2025 Lecture SeriesSponsored by the Eurasia Foundation (From Asia)With 60 percent of the world's population, Asia is not only home to the world's oldest civilizations, it also represents cultural and economic vitality. Asia has a major role in manufacturing, technology and investment markets. Non-governmental organizations specializing in economic development, healthcare and environmental protection are also active throughout Asia. This series will provide a rare opportunity for students and the community to develop a better understanding of the cultural, political and economic forces that have shaped modern Asia by hearing from esteemed international scholars. From Assyria to Rome: A Medieval French View of Alexander the GreatGeri Smith Professor and Chair, Department of Modern Language, University of Central Florida[Eurasian Lecture Series 2025 - College of Arts and Humanities](https://cah.ucf.edu/eurasia-lectures-2025/)Virtual Location URL: https://cah.ucf.edu/eurasia-lectures-2025/
- Nov 62:00 PMFaculty Seminar in Online Teaching: Foster Critical Thinking and Authentic Learning in Online Assessment in an AI AgeDiscover how to design authentic online assessments -- a powerful approach to evaluating student learning in meaningful, real-world contexts to foster engagement, critical thinking and personalized learning. In this seminar, facilitated by Dr. Jo Smith and Dr. Sharon Woodill, participants will learn:* The meaning, purpose and benefits of authentic assessment in online education. * Key characteristics that distinguish authentic assessment from traditional testing. * How to design authentic tasks with clear criteria and effective rubrics. * How generative artificial intelligence (AI) can be leveraged to support, not supplant, student learning in assessment. * How to incorporate AI with assessment to enhance originality, support process over product and encourage academic integrity.Faculty Seminars in Online Teaching are stand-alone sessions that provide a space for collegial dialogue around best practices in online teaching. Co-presented by the Center for Distributed Learning and UCF teaching faculty, these sessions are designed as ongoing professional development for online instructors following IDL6543. However, all members of the UCF community with an interest in online teaching are welcome to participate. - Nov 711:00 AMCREOL Fall Colloquium: Sadhvikas Addamane, Sandia National Laboratories / CINTTitle: Recent progress in epitaxial growth of semiconductor quantum dot-based lasers and single photon emittersAbstract: Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), also referred to as artificial atoms, offer unique properties such as discrete and size-controlled energy levels. They have historically been used as a pivotal platform for various optoelectronic devices. Recently, epitaxial III-V QDs have come back into prominence for their role as the active component of choice in solid-state infrared emitters such as lasers and single/entangled photon sources. QD-based emitters have demonstrated exceptional performance with state-of-the-art device parameters and enhanced radiation hardness. A critical step towards realizing these emitters is high-quality epitaxial growth, with separate optimization strategies required for different device classes. This presentation will focus on our recent work in developing epitaxial strategies for realizing QD-based emitters, specifically lasers and single/entangled photon sources.Acknowledgements: This work was performed, in part, at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies, an Office of Science User Facility operated for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science by Los Alamos National Laboratory (Contract 89233218CNA000001) and Sandia National Laboratories (Contract DE-NA-0003525).About the Speaker: Sadhvikas Addamane is a principal member of technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and a staff scientist at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies. He received bachelor's and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 2013 and 2017, respectively. He also held postdoctoral appointments at both UNM and SNL. His research focuses on the development of epitaxial growth strategies for a wide variety of optoelectronic devices, including high mobility 2DEGs, lasers, saturable absorbers, detectors and single/entangled photon emitters.Virtual Location URL: https://ucf.zoom.us/j/96830543525?from=addon
