- Nov 192:00 PMEmerging and Re-emerging Viral Pathogens in BrazilThe recent resurgence of arboviruses such as Chikungunya (CHIKV), Zika (ZIKV), Yellow Fever (YFV), and dengue (DENV), along with the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, has placed considerable strain on healthcare systems worldwide, including in Brazil. The distribution of these viral pathogens is shaped by a complex interplay of demographic, environmental, and social factors, often leading to outbreaks in regions previously unaffected. Brazil, with its diverse ecosystems and urban expansion, remains particularly vulnerable to such re-emergences, underscoring the need for enhanced surveillance and response strategies. Integrating genomic diagnostics with digital disease surveillance offers a powerful framework for global pathogen monitoring. Real-time sequencing and bioinformatics, combined with epidemiological data, provide critical insights into how viruses spread and evolve, enabling timely and effective public health responses across regions.Talk by: Eleonora Cella, PhD, MSc Assistant Research Scientist
