The College of Medicine's 16th annual FIRE (Focused Research and Inquiry Experience) celebrates medical student research. UCF's medical school is one of the few in the nation that requires all first- and second-year M.D. candidates to conduct and present a scientific research project that will advance medical knowledge.This year's conference is Feb. 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Medical Education Building at Lake Nona. The event is open to the public and will feature oral and poster presentations.The plenary speaker is Dr. Analiz Rodriguez, neurology oncology director at the University of Arkansas' College of Medicine, who will speak on "Finding Your Path in Clinical Research." The presentation is at noon in Room 102 of the Medical Education Building.

AboutOutdoor Adventure is proud to partner with Ranger Rick's SCUBA Adventure, one of the most experienced scuba dive outfitters, for our entry-level NAUI SCUBA certification course. This course is available for students who are currently enrolled and taking classes at UCF.Upon successful completion of this course and check-out dives, graduates are considered competent to engage in open water diving activities without supervision, provided the diving activities and the areas dived approximate those of training. No previous SCUBA experience is required; however, basic swimming skills are necessary to complete the course.Cost The total cost of the certification is $320. To register, you will pay a $40 deposit to Outdoor Adventure to hold your spot on the course. The rest of the price ($280) is due the first weekend of the certification and is paid directly to Ranger Rick SCUBA Adventures.ScheduleIn order for the participant to receive the SCUBA certification, they must complete two consecutive weekends of training. The first weekend encompasses classroom work and practice dives in the pool. The first weekend includes Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. For the second weekend, Ranger Rick will pick either Saturday or Sunday to complete the Open Water Dives.
