- 11:00 AM1h 30mMaking India an Advanced Economy by 2047: What Will It Take?Join The India Center at UCF for a talk with Ajay Chhibber, Ph.D., a distinguished visiting scholar in the Institute for International Economic Policy at George Washington University and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council. His latest book co-authored with Salman Soz Unshackling India: Hard Truths and Clear Choices for Economic Revival published by Harper-Collins in November 2021, was declared the Best New Book in Economics for 2022 in the Financial Times and was awarded the India Economic Forum Literary Award for 2022.The Indian government, both in political rhetoric and policy planning, has declared its intentions to make India an advanced economy by 2047. India's economic rise in the last three decades is indeed significant; it also remains the fastest growing economy in the world. Yet, India faces a myriad challenges, both internal and external, before it can realize the vision of being an advanced economy. What are India's comparative advantages and how can India secure its vision? What is the journey of reform -- political, economic, social -- it must undertake? How will the global environment shape India's quest? What is the role of the India-US economic partnership in realizing this vision? The event will be moderated by Buvaneshwaran Venugopal, Ph.D., an assistant professor of finance in the College of Business at the University of Central Florida. - 1:00 PM1hRESCHEDULED: Lunch and Learn: Osteological Challenges of Commingled Partially Articulated and Mummified Individuals From Diablo Wasi, PeruPlease join us for our first Lunch and Learn of the semester! Dr. J. Marla Toyne will be presenting on the Osteological Challenges of Commingled Partially Articulated and Mummified Individuals From Diablo Wasi, Peru. The event will be held in person in Howard Phillips Hall room 409M and via Zoom on Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 1- 2 p.m.[Join virtually here.](https://go.ucf.edu/3YoBugw)Abstract:Traditional osteological analyses following the excavation of human remains from burial contexts involves the observation of individual skeletal elements. However, at the archaeological site of Diablo Wasi, Peru (Late Intermediate Period 1000-1450 AD), open chamber tombs contained the superficially deposited individuals. Due to substantial damage from looters who ripped open the textile bundles, the well- preserved human remains were exposed and ended up (partially and completely) disarticulated in a large, commingled collection. We developed a new recording method to account for all the skeletal elements present, but also to allow for those partially articulated elements and partially mummified individuals. These observations reveal much about mortuary practices, looting behavior, and the flexibility required in osteological field and lab methods.Virtual Location URL: https://go.ucf.edu/4euojjF
