- May 305:00 PMPathways 2024: Opening Reception & Prize AnnouncementPathways 2024: The Carlos Malamud Prize ExhibitionExhibition Dates: May 30, 2024 - August 30, 2024This exhibition is the result of a collaborative partnership between the UCF Art Gallery at the University of Central Florida and the Rollins Museum of Art to celebrate and support emerging professional artists working in Florida. Juried by an external panel of three professionals from various areas of the art world, this year's edition of the exhibition features six artists with diverse practices. The selection includes a variety of media, themes, scales and approaches, showing a wide breadth of perspectives and experiences. Works by the six finalists will be shown at both venues, creating opportunities for engagement with two of the area's major academic constituencies and their surrounding communities. The winning artist of Pathways: The Carlos Malamud Prize will receive a $10,000 cash prize, a solo exhibition at the UCF Art Gallery in 2025 and will participate as a juror for the following edition of the exhibition. The winner will also receive additional professional development and support. This consistent engagement over time makes Pathways unique and transformative among other art competitions. Snorkeling at Blue Heron Bridge in West Palm Beach, Florida, offers the opportunity to connect with nature in a very unique way. As we move through the water, we will hopefully get to see plenty of wildlife including fish, turtles and birds dive beneath the surface. Additionally, you will be surrounded by Florida's iconic tropical vegetation every stroke of way! After a good time snorkeling, we will go to a local beach for beach games, more swimming and maybe building a sand castle or two. - May 223:00 PMMighty Knights Self-DefenseOur instructors are UCF police officers who are experienced and knowledgeable on topics of personal safety and threat awareness. This course primarily focuses on topics of mindset, preparation and safety awareness, but also utilizes defensive tactics instructors, certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to demonstrate basic physical defense techniques. Our courses are designed to provide attendees with information, tactics and options which we believe may be useful for various types of crimes perpetrated against victims.As an inclusive, public institution of higher education, UCF offers the Mighty Knights classes to all students, staff and faculty within the UCF community at no cost. A valid UCF affiliated e-mail account must be used when registering for this course.Registration is required. Please note, class sizes are small to ensure each participant is able to get the most from the class, so there is a limited amount of space available.
