- Nov 208:30 AMNHHAW Volunteer Opportunity: Community Food DistributionThis volunteer opportunity is part of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (NHHAW).To volunteer, you MUST complete the registration form, the covenant not to sue and hold harmless agreements, and the photo release agreement by clicking the "REGISTER NOW" button to the right. About the Event: This monthly food distribution event is a volunteering opportunity that takes place on the third Thursday of every month at the 910 Livingston Street Church of God, about a block and a half from UCF Downtown and Valencia College Downtown. The volunteer opportunity is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There are two volunteer shifts: 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers may sign up for one or both shifts (link below). Volunteers will be expected to assist with setup and/or teardown, breakdown and repackage food for distribution, and assist with loading patrons' vehicles. The Blended Learning class includes an online portion (most participants can complete this in approximately 2 hours) and an instructor-led class skills session (approximately two hours long). The online portion must be completed prior to attending the in-class skills session.Each participant who successfully completes the course will earn an American Red Cross certificate in Adult First Aid, CPR with AED. During this event, you will get the chance to paddle on the lake once the sun goes down with our knowledgeable paddle guides. They will teach you basic paddle strokes, leave no trace principles, and exciting information about the flora and fauna that call Lake Claire home. - Nov 212:00 PMMusic & the Brain Concert"Music and the Brain" transforms one of the most popular courses in UCF's Burnett Honors College into an immersive concert and lecture. Two UCF professors -- neuroscientist Kiminobu Sugaya and world-renowned violinist Ayako Yonetani -- have added live performance and a panel of health experts to guide audiences through an interactive exploration of the course's themes: how music impacts brain function and human behavior, and especially how music can improve health outcomes for patients with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinsons.
