Bring your bassoon.Guest Clinician & Artist: Fernando TrabaPrincipal Bassoon, Sarasota OrchestraFaculty, University of South FloridaFernando Traba, Principal Bassoon of the Sarasota Orchestra, is serving as adjunct bassoon faculty at USF for the 2020-21 school year. Traba has served on the faculty of Department of Music at Florida Southern College since 2000, and also teaches bassoon at the State College of Florida. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Traba has served as principal bassoon of Sarasota Orchestra since 1992. He holds bachelor's and Master of Music degrees from The Cleveland Institute of Music and has done postgraduate work at the Juilliard School. In addition to his orchestral duties and teaching positions, he has edited and provided the Spanish language translation for the second edition of Bassoon Reed Making: Basic Technique by Christopher Weait. - Apr 256:00 PMExpanding Vocabulary Knowledge and Oral Language Through a Comprehensive Approach (Grades K-6)Longitudinal research shows that vocabulary and oral language abilities early on in preschool and kindergarten are some of the strongest predictors of reading achievement in grades three and beyond. Coupled with strong decoding and spelling abilities, vocabulary and language provide critical understandings for students' knowledge-building and comprehension.
