- 12:00 AM5:00 PMBiology Summer InstituteThe Biology Summer Institute is a one-week program for rising junior and senior high school students interested in seeking further understanding of Central Florida's diverse ecosystems, from Orlando to the east coast. This program will introduce students to field techniques and experimental approaches used in water quality assessment, vegetation monitoring, forest ecology, and studies of gopher tortoises and marine turtles. Throughout the program, students will participate in hands-on experiences with professional biologists in a fun and educational setting designed to inspire a passion for studying the fields of biology, ecology and natural resource conservation. In addition, students will spend one day in the lab learning basic data analysis and the importance of communicating science. - All dayAppalachian Adventure: Caving, Whitewater Rafting and WaterfallsJoin this high energy extended trip as we explore some of the most wild places the Southeast has to offer! We will self-guide our group through Tumbling Rock Cave Preserve in northern Alabama, followed by a day of whitewater rafting on one of the many Class III-IV rivers in the area. We will also explore some of the many waterfalls in the area. Participants interested in this trip should be physically capable of long days full of high activity, including climbing, dynamic movement, paddling and swimming for multiple hours.Register for this trip in the UCF RWC app or through the [UCF RWC Membership Portal website](https://ucfrwc.org/Program/GetProducts?classification=7e94c055-5e69-4046-8e3d-96909ff99f22&category=ea528aa9-f493-4efb-b769-b1e686780cb3). All staff are certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, and most are certified Wilderness First Responders. Meals will be provided on this trip. All menus will take dietary restrictions/preferences and allergies into account. Occasionally, groups will eat at restaurants while traveling. These meals are not included in your trip cost. Your trip leaders will inform you of any meals not included in the trip price.What's Not Included: Participants should wear athletic clothing and appropriate footwear, and bring personal water/snacks. Each tour begins with an information session presented by the SVAD advising team with an overview of each program and their requirements. Tours are conducted by faculty, staff, alumni and student ambassadors who are enrolled in an SVAD program. These sessions and tours are offered together and are scheduled on select Fridays (except for holidays). Each info session begins at 10 a.m. and tours begin at 11 a.m. in the Visual Arts Building.
