- Oct 77:30 PMMasterworks for Wind OrchestraThe UCF School of Performing Arts and UCF Bands present a special concert by the UCF Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, with special guest ensemble, the Osceola County School of the Arts High School Wind Ensemble. The program will feature iconic works from the wind orchestra repertoire, alongside more recent compositions by some of this century's most important and emerging composers. Included on the program will be the Florida premiere of a brand new work commissioned in part by the UCF Wind Ensemble: In This Breath, by award-winning composer, Shuying Li. - Oct 87:30 PMUCF Symphony Orchestra Strings ConcertThe UCF Symphony Orchestra in concert, featuring the Serenade by Antonin Dvorak.The UCF Symphony Orchestra is a select, member-auditioned performing ensemble comprised of many of the university's accomplished undergraduate and graduate string, woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians. The ensemble performs in venues throughout Central Florida, featuring a variety of literature, including traditional symphonic instrumentation, chamber orchestra, and string orchestra.
- Oct 1010:00 AMMusic & the Brain Concert"Music and the Brain" transforms one of the most popular courses in UCF's Burnett Honors College into an immersive concert and lecture. Two UCF professors -- neuroscientist Kiminobu Sugaya and world-renowned violinist Ayako Yonetani -- have added live performance and a panel of health experts to guide audiences through an interactive exploration of the course's themes: how music impacts brain function and human behavior, and especially how music can improve health outcomes for patients with neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinsons. This event is made possible by a Pabst Steinmetz Foundation Arts and Wellness Innovation Award.
- Oct 124:00 PMGuest Artist Recital: Nancy Zeltsman, marimbaNancy Zeltsman, leading marimba specialist and professor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and at Berklee College of Music, is set to share her soulful, rhythmic performance style with UCF audiences. For 40 years, Zeltsman has been perfecting the craft of marimba. This faculty recital blends the sounds and performance styles of two distinct instruments and musical talents: Vasko on tuba and Goldman on steel drum. Experience an evening of music that showcases solo talent and celebrates collaboration.FREE AdmissionAbout the Bens:Ben Vasko serves on the faculties of the University of Central Florida and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He is the founder and director of the Orlando Youth Tuba Ensemble, a high school-aged chamber group dedicated to elevating the performance level of young tuba and euphonium players. Vasko has had the honor of performing with the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, the Jacksonville Symphony, the National Orchestra of Spain, and the Orlando Philharmonic. He tours with the Brookwood Trio and the Ben Diagram Duo, bringing unique instrumentations to stages and classrooms around the United States.Ben Goldman is a versatile drummer and percussionist who "demonstrates his aptitude to adapt." (Susan Frances, Jazz2Love). Ben built a private studio of 40 students and is the professor of percussion at Cecil College. When he is not teaching or performing locally, Ben performs as an associate artist with Rodney Marsalis and the Philadelphia Big Brass. Ben is a member of 6ix Wire, a Fusion/World Music ensemble in residence at The University of Delaware. In addition to touring nationally and internationally with these ensembles, Ben has been on faculty at several international music festivals. Ben led the Peace Drums Orchestra and performed in faculty ensembles at the Tefen Music Festival in Israel. At the 2017 and 2019 Master Players Festival hosted at the University of Delaware, Ben directed the World-Music ensembles and chaired the percussion division.
